What Are Common Cosmetic Dental Procedures?

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the attainment of authentic beauty. There are several ways we help our patients achieve greater confidence in their smiles.

Teeth Whitening

Bridges, Crowns & Fillings

Dental Implants

TMJ Treatment

Dental Bonding

The methods used by your dentist have been scientifically proven to achieve the desired outcome with minimal side effects such as sensitivity. Before teeth whitening, Dr. Koeltl performs an examination to ensure the health of teeth and gums is sufficient to tolerate treatment. When gum disease or decay exists, the risk of sensitivity may be elevated. In addition to confirming optimal oral health, we may incorporate a desensitizing agent into the whitening procedure to make treatment as comfortable as possible, even for those with sensitive teeth. View our Teeth Whitening page to learn more about your options.

Most people associate tooth loss with functional issues. We consider how we may restore stability to chewing, clarity to speech, AND an authentic beauty that makes you want to share your smile. Patients with one or more missing teeth can still receive cosmetic treatments. In fact, such patients benefit from consulting with an accredited dentist who understands how procedures may affect natural enamel, restorative materials, and the face as a whole. We provide a broad spectrum of services, including bridges and dental implants, through which we can rebuild a healthy, attractive smile.

Many people who would like to improve the appearance of teeth hesitate to do so due to dental anxiety. We are sensitive to this very real problem! If you are interested in dental services but have a fear of treatment, we are happy to discuss your options for sedation. Sedative medication can help patients with mild to severe dental phobias sail right through treatment. By relaxing the mind and the body, sedation reduces fear and can make it possible to complete several procedures in a single visit. Speak with us about your concerns!

Teeth Whitening

When you’re in our offices, we take impressions of your teeth. From there, we create a custom mouthpiece that precisely fits your teeth. Next, we provide you with syringes of carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, along with thorough instructions for your home whitening.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the anchor that is placed in the jaw and is just one part of the prosthetic tooth replacement. What many people think of as dental implants consist of three sections: the implant, the abutment, and the crown. The implant is made of titanium and is screwed down into the socket of the former tooth root. The jawbone then grows around the implant, fully making it a part of the jaw.

Dental Hygiene Cleanings

Dental hygiene cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities (dental caries), gingivitis, and periodontal disease. People routinely clean their own teeth by brushing and interdental cleaning, and dental hygienists can remove hardened deposits (tartar) that are not removed by routine cleaning. Those with dentures and natural teeth may supplement their cleaning with a denture cleaner.

TMJ Treatment

The way to treat TMJ Disorder is first to perform a comprehensive diagnostic examination to determine the cause. Sometimes a precise cause cannot be identified. When the issue is related to bite, we look at ways to achieve optimal mechanical function. When bruxism is an underlying factor, splint therapy can quickly improve comfort by minimizing the force placed on the joints and muscles of the jaw.

Do You Have More Questions About Cosmetic Dentistry in Boise, ID?

Teeth & Airway Health

The position of the teeth, even as early as 2 years old, can indicate insufficient jaw size, poor airway development and be a symptom of poor myofunctional habits that can lead to Sleep Disordered Breathing and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The earlier the signs are recognized and treated, the healthier your child will be.

No Spacing OR Crowding Between Baby Teeth

A normal and healthy bite with all the primary teeth present will appear to have SPACES between all the baby teeth. This is a good indication that the tongue is correctly placed on the roof of the mouth and is acting like a “scaffold” for proper tooth position and palate size development. Permanent teeth that come in after the baby teeth fall out are much bigger and wider than the baby teeth they replace and need the extra room spacing provides. No spaces between your child’s baby teeth usually indicate not only that the adult teeth are going to be crowed or even “crowed out completely”, but also indicate that the dental arches are too narrow and can lead to poor facial growth and unhealthy airway development. Early intervention and treatment can not only prevent the need for braces which will likely be inevitable, but can also prevent poor airway development that can lead to poor heath and sleep.
