2016 is here whether you are ready for it or not. Make a resolution this year to take the best possible care of your teeth as possible. From scheduling regular dental cleanings to drinking more water, these three tips are sure to contribute to a healthier smile all year long.
- Schedule Regular Cleanings
It seems like there are two types of people in the world: those who avoid the dentist at all costs and those who are vigilant with schedule regular dental cleanings. If you are the former, make it a resolution this year to see your dentist every six months. Think about it, the more frequently you see your dentist and get your teeth cleaned, the less likely you are to have to sit through an excruciatingly long and painful cleaning process. The longer that plaque has to sit on your teeth, the more damaging it can be. - Drink More Water
You’ve heard it once and you’ll likely hear it again, drinking eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day is a sure way to ensure that you stay healthy. But did you know that drinking more water is good for your oral health as well? By staying hydrated, your body’s natural ability to produce saliva is sped up which helps to prevent cavities and wipe away and plaque or tartar build up. - Brush Regularly
As one of the easiest and most effective ways of keeping cavities away, it’s important to brush your teeth after every meal or at least twice daily. Brushing is not only good for your teeth but it is also good for your gums as well— preventing things like gingivitis from occurring. Just make sure that you are using a soft bristled toothbrush so that it won’t contribute to things like receding gums.
By following these three easy steps, you can help to get a cleaner, healthier smile in 2016— a resolution that won’t disappoint.
